WHO'S COOKING?

Hi there! Thrilled that you're here! I'm Cher, a 20-something year old who finds comfort and joy in homecooking.

 

I grew up in a bilingual environment, embracing the best of both western and eastern culture, which results in my diverse taste and curiosity for cuisine from all over the world. Now I love taking on cooking challenges, experimenting different recipes while keeping in mind that ultimately I wish to create fresh, nutritional food to celebrate a healthy lifestyle and bring people together.

 

哈囉,我是Cher (雪兒),一個二十幾歲喜歡料理的女生。

我在一個中、西文化交錯的雙語環境長大,因此我對於世界各國的美食充滿好奇心。料理純粹是興趣,我未受過正規的訓練,但很幸運的有一位非常會做菜的媽媽。對我來說晚餐是留給親人的時間,親朋好友能在家裡享用美食對我來說就是幸福,因此養成了自己下廚的習慣。

You should know that cooking has not always been such a big part of life. Yes, I remember cooking the occassional mac and cheese when my parents were out on the weekends. But it wasn't until I went to study abroad that I really picked up the spatula (only because I was nostalgic for Taiwanese cuisine) and I've only invested on a trusty nonstick pan when I moved into my own apartment.

 

Then came the cooking shows and the discovery of Gordon Ramsay. Hell's Kitchen, The F Word, Masterchef US, and finally Gordon Ramsay's Ultimate Cookery Course. The man was my idol. He has inspired me to cook, take on challenges, live life, and connect people through food.

 

It's been over one year since I've started following this amazing talent. Countless times, I've tried and failed to find a way to keep track of my cooking experiments. My friends and colleagues have all encouraged me to start a YouTube channel or blog. Since I'm camera shy, I opt for the blog.

 

I'm so glad that I finally set my mind to create "In the Food Lab" to celebrate and document my cooking adventures.

 

 

其實我並不是從小就喜歡烹飪。因我們住在小山丘上,最近的便利商店走路也要半小時以上,想知外食並不方便。國中、高中時期比較叛逆,周末不愛跟爸媽出門,所以會自己煮簡單的通心麵。認真想起來,我跟一很多留學生一樣,人到異鄉總是會特別懷念家鄉的味道,故我拿起了鍋鏟。開始工作後,我搬進了自己的公寓,購入了人身中第一個鍋具:不沾平底鍋。

 

接著,我開始關注煮菜節目,發現了蘇格蘭名廚Gordon Ramsay。地獄廚房、美國頂級廚師、及Ramsay的教學系列影集。GR是我的廚神:他啟發了我對料理的熱情,讓我更願意去挑戰新的食譜,也讓我想要透過食物把人聚集在一起。

 

從發現GR到現在,已經有一年多了。我嘗試了很多方法想記錄我的料理故事,但都失敗了。周遭的朋友、同事常常鼓勵我拍Youtube影片或寫部落格。在鏡頭前,我總是覺得不自然,所以我選擇了部落格這條路。

 

如今,我希望我可值持續的在雪兒的料理實驗室成長,並撰寫下屬於我的美食故事。
